According to Home Office statistics, the number of international students coming to the UK has increased over the last two years, which has created significant pressure on net migration figures.

The following changes are expected to be introduced (with or without amendments) in June:

1. Stricter compliance rules during the enrolment stage;

2. Introduction of a completion rate threshold;

3. Enhanced compliance reviews;

4. Data integration across course attendance, Border Force records, and students’ academic progress.

These new measures will put extra pressure on UK higher education institutions and will tighten compliance standards, leading to increased administrative costs related to attendance tracking systems, audit documentation, and coordination across university departments.

Stricter visa compliance rules will no doubt strengthen the UK's reputation as a global education provider, enhance communication and collaboration between agencies and the government, and improve academic progress tracking.

It is very important for universities to stay up to date with relevant guidance, remain compliant as rules change, ensure reporting timelines meet new standards, and prepare for audit reviews.
