UK Transition to E-Visa: Do You Need To Act Now?

Updated: May 29

Holders of UK Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) cards are receiving emails from UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) to set up an online UKVI account for the upcoming switch to digital "E-visas". Due to technological limitations, BRP cards will expire by December 31, 2024. To ensure a smooth transition, all BRP card holders must obtain an E-visa before this date.

Expect an email from DoNotReply.evisadirectmail@notifications.service.gov.uk titled "Important information about your BRP and changes to the UK immigration system" with instructions on the UKVI account application process. Act promptly upon receiving this email.

Children and dependents must create individual accounts. Once set up, update your passport information and contact details.

British Citizens with a British passport or existing E-visa/EUSS status are exempt. However, those with a Certificate of Entitlement will need further guidance later this year.

Failure to obtain an E-visa by December 31, 2024, may lead to complications in proving status and potential entry refusals from January 1, 2025. Prepare for potential email notifications and stay updated through your legal representative.

Further guidance will follow as information develops. Contact us with any queries on creating your UKVI account or E-visa status.
